Two men are facing criminal charges after a police investigation into several carjackings in Toronto last year including one that matches an incident involving Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner.
Police say officers arrested a 24-year-old man from Brampton and a 21-year-old man from Toronto on Wednesday in connection with carjackings that took place on April 17 and May 16 of last year.
The details of the May incident match the circumstances of a carjacking that involved Marner, who was sitting in a Range Rover with another person before a black Honda Civic pulled up and blocked his car’s way.
Police say two armed men exited the Civic and demanded that the victims hand over their keys and the victims complied with the demands and the suspects drove away in the stolen vehicle.
When asked if the arrests are tied to the Marner incident, police said they cannot identify the victim for privacy reasons.
They say investigators are still looking for a third suspect in the case.
