We're proud to announce The Globe and Mail's Report on Business swept the business category in the National Newspaper Awards for 2012, taking all three nominations.
Overall, the Globe received an industry-leading 15 nominations in a variety of categories, including foreign reporting, sports, columns and photography. The winners will be announced May 3 in Ottawa.
The nominees in business are:
- Grant Robertson, Tara Perkins and Richard Blackwell for their series of articles about the risks in Canada's housing market. The three examined the problems with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., its system for valuing homes and the affordability crisis in housing.
- Jacquie McNish, Brent Jang and Sean Silcoff for their articles getting deep inside the power struggle at Canadian Pacific Railway;
- Mark MacKinnon and Andy Hoffman for their pieces on the rough treatment Chinese authorities gave to critics of mining company Silvercorp. MacKinnon and Hoffman won the category last year for their investigation into fraud at Sino-Forest Corp.
